The Board of Directors is the policy-making and oversight body of the Bank. The Board’s purpose is to benefit the Bank’s shareholders by upholding the policies and procedures of the Bank and its regulators and to make sensible decisions that encourage growth and stability while managing associated risk. The Board is comprised of an eight member body of business leaders with extensive backgrounds in operating or managing locally-based businesses. Their credentials include disciplines in accounting, commercial banking, insurance, law, real estate and construction, philanthropy, marketing, and recruiting.
With an entrepreneurial spirit that allows the Bank to achieve its mission – of providing a high level of experience, unparalleled service and market expertise to Southern Californians in a locally-managed setting – the Board of Directors accepts the fiduciary and legal responsibility to regulators, shareholders and the community, for the Bank.
Cary Mack
Cary Mack serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Torrey Pines Bank, having served on the Bank’s Board of Directors since its formation in 2003. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Western Alliance Bancorporation (NYSE: WAL) and was formerly the Chair of WAL's Audit committee. He has previously served on the Board of Trustees and associated committees of various charitable organizations.
Mr. Mack is a Managing Principal with Southwest Value Partners, a value oriented real estate investment management firm. He was formerly employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers (beginning in 1983), Mack|Barclay Inc. (beginning in 1990), and LECG (beginning in 2006). Mack|Barclay Inc. was a professional services firm he founded in 1990, successfully built and managed into one of the largest boutique economic and forensic consulting firms in Southern California, and sold to LECG in 2006. LECG is a publicly traded, international expert services firm.
Mr. Mack is licensed in the state of California as an attorney, certified public accountant, and real estate broker. His professional career has been significantly devoted to successfully growing businesses and conducting verifiable economic and valuation analysis applicable to business and real estate interests. He has analyzed and consulted regarding highly complex financial, economic, and valuation issues, and has presented qualified expert opinion testimony regarding such matters throughout the country on in excess of 200 occasions. He has substantial experience in the general business, real estate, and financial institution environments.
Mark Schlossberg
Mr. Mark Schlossberg has been responsible for the day-to-day operations of SVP since its inception and has been instrumental in sourcing and closing well in excess of $1 billion in real estate asset acquisitions, financings and dispositions. He oversees SVP's investment policy, and the firm's negotiation, acquisition, management, value creation, and disposition functions. Prior to joining SVP, he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant with an emphasis in real estate.
Mr. Schlossberg is a founding member of the Board of Directors of Torrey Pines Bank and also sits on the Board of Directors of SynCardia Systems, Inc. He previously served on the Board of Trustees and associated committees for various charitable organizations.
Mr. Schlossberg received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Arizona.
Sheryl White
Ms. White is a retired commercial banker of 28 years with First Interstate Bank and California Bank & Trust. During her tenure Ms. White held various management positions where she was responsible for commercial lending, asset performance, portfolio management, industry regulations and customer relations. Ms. White serves on the Board’s CRA sub committee and the Bank’s CRA Advisory Board.
Ms. White is a strategic philanthropist and advisor to the arts including the San Diego Opera and Old Globe Theatre. In May of 2010 Ms. White will earn a Master of Science degree in Executive Leadership from the prestigious University of San Diego.
Mark Johnson
Mr. Johnson has been the owner/operator of MJB Freight Systems in San Diego since 1982. MJB Freight is a privately held logistics and supply chain management company. MJB Freight is an LTL carrier and covers all major points of service in Southern California. Its services include transportation logistics of general and specialized goods.
Mr. Johnson’s background including closely held family businesses in transportation and ranching.
Richard Doan
Mr. Doan is the owner of Doan Construction, a privately held land and real estate company specializing in custom home building since 1977. Doan Construction is one of San Diego’s premier custom home builders and employs a significant number of real estate trade employees. The company cultivates a market focused approach to residential land acquisition, construction, development and sales.
Mr. Doan holds a Bachelor of Science degree and serves on the Board of Directors for the Jr. Seau Foundation. Mr. Doan is a past Board member for the Encinitas YMCA.
Gary Levine
Mr. Levine is CEO of GS Levine Insurance Services, the 4th largest locally owned independent agency in San Diego. GS Levine Insurance Services has been in business for 23 years with annual sales revenue exceeds $80 million. Mr. Levine’s specialty includes analysis, projections and financial performance of local commercial businesses as well as actuarial practices and underwriting to assess risk.
Mr. Levine is a Board member for InterSure, a 40 member organization of independent insurance agencies across the United States who aim to leverage best practices for continued success of the independent insurance agency business model.
Mr. Levine earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from San Diego State University (1981) and serves on various local community boards.
Judy Thompson
Ms. Thompson is President of Thompson Financial Search, Inc. of Thompson Interim Professionals, Inc and of BrownThompson Executive Search, all part of the Thompson Search Group. Ms. Thomson has more than 30 years experience recruiting high level financial and accounting executives for San Diego’s businesses. Ms. Thompson’s company strengths include systems for assessment of individuals for hire, as well as best practices in human resources and in growing a profitable business. She and her firm have received numerous awards of recognition in the San Diego community.
Ms. Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from San Diego State University (1993) and an Associates degree in Mathematics from Colby Junior College (1968). Ms. Thompson is active in the community serving on boards, including the advisory board for San Diego State University’s School of Accountancy, and on the board of Corporate Directors Forum.
Gary Cady
Gary Cady is a long-time San Diego resident who has built a distinguished 30-year career in banking. He spent much of his career with a prominent and successful local financial institution, where he held positions including Vice President and Head of Business Banking. Thereafter, Mr. Cady joined a local community bank as Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for San Diego and Riverside counties.
Mr. Cady serves on the boards of several local not-for-profit organizations including the Board of Directors for the San Diego Symphony and Continuous Quality Insurance Corporation. Previously, Mr. Cady served on the Board for the Grossmont Hospital Corporate Board and the Board of Directors of Sharp HealthCare.
The father of six sons, he is an avid supporter of youth sports, serving as a coach and board member on several local Little League baseball teams and basketball leagues.
